PODCAST FOR PRIDE MONTH BERLIN

Insights from the UY Pride Podcast

We recently released our first UY Podcast for Pride month in Berlin. We recorded three episodes for the UY Pride Podcast, featuring influential LGBTQI+ artists and activists in Berlin.

The podcast seeks to amplify the voices of the LGBTQI+ community, shedding light on their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. This article delves into the conversations with The Darvish, Lie Ning, and DJ Hyperaktivist, highlighting their personal journeys, contributions to the arts and activism, and their perspectives on Pride Month in Berlin.

Berlin's vibrant LGBTQI+ community has been at the forefront of promoting inclusivity and equality. The UY Pride Podcast aims to showcase the experiences of LGBTQI+ artists and activists in the city, shedding light on their accomplishments and struggles.

Episode 1: The Darvish The first guest, The Darvish, is a Syrian self-taught performance artist and a prominent figure in the Berlin arts scene. Their journey towards becoming an activist and advocate for the LGBTQI+ community is inspiring, and they highlight the importance of representation and visibility in their work.

Episode 2: Lie Ning, a Berlin-based artist, has been an essential part of the UY Studio campaigns and has a significant presence in the local music industry. As a POC queer artist, Lie Ning shares their insights on activism within the LGBTQI+ community and navigating the obstacles faced by queer artists in the music industry. Their focus on kindness and realness as an artist highlights the power of empathy and understanding in promoting inclusivity.

As a female, non-European queer DJ from Venezuela, she has made significant contributions to the Berlin clubbing scene. Her dedication to creating spaces for queer and femme artists through her club nights is commendable. DJ Hyperaktivist candidly shares her journey of coming out and embracing her identity, which has shaped her artistry as Hyperaktivist

These episodes reveal common themes among the guests, emphasizing the significance of active representation and inclusivity in the LGBTQI+ community. All three artists have had past connections with UY Studio, a brand deeply committed to promoting queerness within their work.

The discussions with The Darvish underscore the importance of using art as a medium for activism and advocacy. Lie Ning's experiences highlight the need for increased visibility for queer artists within the music industry, while DJ Hyperaktivist showcases the impact of creating safe spaces for marginalized communities.
