Upcycling Master Class with Melisa Minca

11th March

Upcycling is increasingly becoming more popular within the fashion industry. By using pre-used fashion garments or waste materials brands have started using this method to reduce waste, increase the lifespan of a garment, and create amazing and unique garments responsibly. Upcycling is the process of creating new designs through redesign.

Melisa Minca is a fashion designer who seeks to make people aware of the possibilities offered by upcycling, celebrating uniqueness and transforming how we treat clothes. Melisa’s designs serve as a bridge between ethical fashion and contemporary design. Melisa has worked on amazing collaborations, has clients such as ADIDAS and Ellen Alien, and has been featured in Forbes and Vogue Germany to just name a few. With years of experience and learning, in this workshop Melisa teaches you how to create your own upcycled garments with different materials, techniques and approaches.

In this workshop you will learn some of the most important facts about the environmental impact of the fashion industry, as well as new options on how to create sustainable fashion. Melisa explains the process of upcycling designs. Going over the details of the materials and approaches you need to give new life to old garments. You will have the opportunity to also practice upcycling techniques with your own garments and UY Studio’s haberdashery to create your own designs and extend the life of your preloved items.
